Here’s the ultimatum Jacob deGrom’s agent gave the Mets: Extend the ace or trade him.

On a day where he was snubbed from an All-Star start in favor of hometown hero Max Scherzer, Brodie Van Waganen, deGrom’s agent dropped a bomb that will likely put pressure on the Mets to make a choice.

“We have discussed Jacob’s future with the Mets at length,” Van Waganen said according to Ken Rosenthal. “Jacob has expressed interest in exploring a long-term partnership that would keep him in a Mets uniform for years to come.

“If the Mets don’t share same interest, we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now,” Van Waganen continued. “The inertia of current situation could complicate Jacob’s relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of indecision.”

Wow, talk about getting right to the point.

DeGrom, who is leading Major League Baseball with a 1.68 ERA and has been good for 6.0 bWAR this season can become a free agent in 2021.

After making the postseason in back-to-back years, the Mets are now on track to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

DeGrom’s name has been the center of many trade rumors, though New York has been adamant about not trading him unless being completely blown away.

The 30-year-old is just 5-4 on the season thanks to poor run support, but has been dominant every fifth day for the Mets the entire season.

DeGrom’s agency, CAA, has done business with the Mets for a very long time and extensively.

We will see how this unfolds, but until then, Mets: it’s your move.
