Wayne Randazzo of WOR reports that the Mets will start right-hander Corey Oswalt in place of Jacob deGrom on Friday night against the Miami Marlins. DeGrom is currently dealing with unspecified “family issues,” as described by Mickey Callaway.

DeGrom is currently expected to start on Saturday against the Marlins.

Oswalt, despite a string of brief call-ups and subsequent demotions across the season, has only made one appearance thus far. In a 9-1 loss in St. Louis on April 25th, Oswalt allowed two runs on two hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. He had spent time on the 7-day disabled list in Triple-A Las Vegas in late-May with a lat injury, and has pitched to a 6.16 ERA in his last three starts.

The Mets also moved Seth Lugo to the bullpen in anticipation of Jason Vargas‘ activation, which could mean an imminent return from Noah Syndergaard, but ultimately confirms that Oswalt will remain in the rotation until further notice.

Right-handed reliever Gerson Bautista has been optioned back to Triple-A to make room on the roster for Oswalt.
