Mickey Callaway told reporters before Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals that Jacob deGrom is “much improved,” as detailed by Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports.

DeGrom, 30, could also be seen playing catch at Busch Stadium, as noted by Tim Healey of Newsday. However, deGrom is still expected to get an MRI on Monday when the team heads back to New York.

The right-hander was placed on the IL yesterday after it was reported that he had a “barking” right elbow, which certainly made Mets fans worried.

Despite the pain their recently extended ace was feeling, the team was not too concerned about it. Due to the fact that deGrom was placed on the IL retroactive to April 14, the team expects him to be ready to be activated to start on April 26 against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field.
