Jacob deGrom‘s goal for 2020? It’s simple. Win the Cy Young Award again. Oh, and to win the World Series

Speaking to the media and fans at Citi Field’s inaugural New York Mets Fan Fest on Saturday, the right-hander was asked what his personal goals are for this season.

“I always set personal goals going into a season,” deGrom said according to SNY. “I guess the goal is to be the best pitcher I can be. I’d like to win another Cy Young. But like I said, personal goals are great. And any time you can achieve them you feel like you’re helping the team be the best I can be. […] the main goal is a World Series for me.”

DeGrom. 31, is coming off back-to-back Cy Young seasons. If he were to hit a threepeat, he’d be only the third pitcher in MLB history to do so. (Greg Maddux, 1992-95 and Randy Johnson 1999-02).

In 2019, the right-hander put up a 2.43 ERA, 2.67 FIP, 167 ERA+, 0.971 WHIP, 7.9 rWAR and appeared in his third All-Star Game.

“I don’t like giving up runs,” deGrom added, according to SNY. “When I go out there, I want to put up zeroes and give these guys a chance.”

The Florida native signed a five-year contract extension with the Mets prior to the 2019 season.
