Decision To Put Cabrera On DL Will Come Tomorrow, Rosario ‘Needs More Time’

According to assistant GM John Ricco, the decision whether or not to put shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the disabled list will come tomorrow.

Cabrera injured his thumb last week diving for a ground ball. While reports had circulated that he had a torn ligament in his thumb, according to Marc Carig of Newsday it is actually a joint problem.

The Mets have made clear that if Cabrera is placed on the DL, shortstop prospect Amed Rosario will not be an option as they say he needs more time. Rosario is hitting .351/.401/.493 with two home runs, 11 doubles, and 22 RBIs in 36 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cabrera, 31, has hit .257/.339/.381 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 33 games so far this season. If he is placed on the DL, it is likely that Jose Reyes will get the bulk of the playing time at shortstop with Wilmer Flores and Matt Reynolds being other options.
