David Wright

According to a report by Zack Braziller of the New York Post, David Wright‘s return is still very unclear based on comments made on Monday by Mets general manager Sandy Alderson.

“It’s just hard to say,” Alderson said, when asked about a possible return. “He could be a week away, could be 10 days away. Until he gets into a game situation and feels confident with the leg, we’re not going to know.”

It was presumed that Wright, who was eligible to come off the disabled list last Thursday, would be activated this Friday when the Mets played the Phillies in Philadelphia. However that no longer seems to be the case and Wright’s return remains uncertain.

As far as a new timetable goes, Alderson said “once Wright is 100 percent confident in the leg and is running at 100 percent, he would be five days or less away from getting back to Queens.”

“We haven’t gotten to that threshold yet,” Alderson explained.

Prior to the hamstring injury, Wright was batting .333 with a homer and 4 RBIs in 8 games.

Last week, manager Terry Collins told reporters that the most important thing is to make sure that Wright is ready physically when he rejoins the team.

“I don’t care what the doctors say the degree of a hamstring injury is: A hamstring is a hamstring,” said Collins. “And when you play the game with your legs, which we do in the sport, there is a process involved, and nobody can give you a timetable or exact date until those legs are ready.”

So for now, it seems unlikely that we see Wright before next Monday. It’s too bad as the team could obviously use his bat right now, but all the Mets can do is hope for better news as this process continues to run its course.
