David Wright will be honored by the Arizona Fall League on November 15, at Scottsdale Stadium as they induct him into their Hall of Fame.
The AFL Hall of Fame consists of former Fall Leaguers who have made a significant impact on the field at the MLB level. Wright spent time with the AFL in 2003 as he played with the Peoria Saguaros. In 26 games he hit .341/.426/.489 with two home runs, seven doubles, 15 RBIs and four stolen bases.
Wright was also honored by the AFL last year with a Bowman trophy as he was named one of the league’s top-25 players of all-time. During the ceremony which took place on October 27, Wright reflected on his time with the league.
“The biggest thing for me was that this league was a trampoline for me the following year,” Wright said according to MLB.com. “I put up good but kind of mediocre years my first couple of years in the Minor Leagues, still kind of getting the hang of things.
“And I came here, had a really good fall, and it gave me all the confidence in the world, and the next year I was in the big leagues.”
Wright will be inducted alongside a two-time MVP in Mike Trout and a two-time Cy Young Award winner in Max Scherzer.
William Boor of MLB.com Tweeted out a list of all the members of the AFL Hall of Fame. Wright, Trout, and Scherzer will be the 40th, 41st, and, 42nd members.
