The New York Mets were up 12-0 halfway into the game on their way to a 13-1 blowout victory over the Giants.

David Wright, who is battling spinal stenosis, is being carefully used his season, but played all nine innings despite the blowout.

This was manager Terry Collins‘s explanation:

“I wanted him to play the whole night, I wanted him to face the lefty – he has got to face (Madison) Bumgarner on Sunday,” Collins said. “We haven’t faced much left-handed pitching and I wanted to get him in there to face the left-hander.

Wright will get a full day off on Saturday before returning to the lineup on Sunday to face Madison Bumgarner.

Including Friday, the Mets will have played a total of 17 straight games until their next day off on May 16.
