travis d'Arnaud

Some good news finally on the injury front. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud is no longer wearing a brace on his hyperextended left elbow and has resumed light baseball activities, Sandy Alderson told reporters on Wednesday night. (Marc Carig, Newsday)

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, writes that d’Arnaud could begin playing in rehab games soon, but that his return is not imminent.

D’Arnaud has missed 70 games this season between this hyperextended elbow injury and the fractured pinky finger that cost him two months.

The latest injury update on starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud , who was eligible to come off the disabled list on Monday, continues to be very concerning.

Speaking to reporters this evening at AT&T Park, Terry Collins said d’Arnaud continues to wear a brace for a left elbow sprain and is not particularly close to being able to shed it and begin baseball activity. (ESPN New York)

Last Friday in Los Angeles, general manager Sandy Alderson said that oft-injured catcher is undergoing daily physical therapy to try and improve the mobility of his hyper-extended elbow in both directions.

D’Arnaud suffered the injury during a collision at the plate with A.J. Pierzynski at Turner Field on June 20. He has missed 65 games already this season between this latest injury and the fractured pinky finger that cost him two months.

Although some of the injuries are freakish in nature, d’Arnaud seems to be prone to a lot of them, and compounding matters is that he’s a very slow healer.

I’ve heard rumblings that some in the organization no longer have faith in him as the long-term answer at catcher, with a few even repeating what Terry Collins blurted out last year that the front office was considering a switch to left field.

Sandy Alderson immediately shot down those comments the very next day. But now I’m wondering…

I’m curious. How many of you still view d’Arnaud as the Mets’ catcher of the future and a core player?
