Sandy Alderson finally revealed tonight, that Travis d’Arnaud is dealing with an elbow injury, however the severity and nature of the injury is not yet known.

D’Arnaud, who hasn’t played the last three games, reportedly hurt his elbow on Tuesday and treated and examined by the Washington Nationals’ medical team.

He will be fully re-examined by team doctors in New York on Friday and will no doubt have an MRI as well to determine the source of the pain.

D’Arnaud has already dealt with a right wrist issue and was also on the DL with a concussion this season – the third of his young career.

This sounds very serious.

Travis d’Arnaud was examined by the Nationals’ medical staff on Wednesday night after the Mets announced he would miss the next two days with an undisclosed injury he suffered on Tuesday night.

It was odd that the Mets chose not to be forthcoming about the injury, but this afternoon it became even more concerning.

Manager Terry Collins announced that d’Arnaud will be examined by team doctors in new York and still opted not to disclose what is ailing the 25-year old backstop other than to say “he’s beat up.”.

He does not know if d’Arnaud could play again this season.

In the meantime the Mets will have Juan Centeno and Anthony Recker handle catching duties in today’s doubleheader.

More on this as we get more details.
