granderson catch

Today Rawlings released their finalists for the Major League Gold Glove awards with Curtis Granderson being the only Met chosen for his time with the team. He is a finalist in the National League in right field against the St. Louis Cardinals Jason Heyward and the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper. Heyward won the award last year while playing for the Braves.

Granderson had a strong year in the field for the Mets finishing second among all Major League right fielders with 12 defensive runs saved (behind Heywards’ 22). He also finished fifth with his 5.7 UZR (ultimate zone rating) including third among NL right fielders.

Curtis has yet to win a gold glove in his career and would become the fourth Met outfielder to do so joining Tommie Agee (1970), Carlos Beltran (06, 07, 08) and Juan Lagares last season.

Yoenis Cespedes is a finalist for the Gold Glove in the American League for left field up against the New York Yankees Brett Gardner and the Kansas City Royals Alex Gordon. Gordon has won the award the last four years.

Jacob deGrom was passed over for Zack Greinke, Jake Arrieta and Gerrit Cole, he finished tied for third among pitches with six defensive runs saved. He was tied with Arrieta and Cole while Greinke was the best in the NL with nine.
