The Chicago Cubs look to have a deal in place for Texas Rangers hurler Cole Hamels.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported earlier today that the deal had a “real chance to be concluded, possibly even today”.

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, there is now a “deal in place”.

Hamels, 34, has spent the last three seasons with the Rangers after being traded to Texas from the Phillies during the 2015 season.

The left-hander has a career 3.43 earned-run average, 3.67 FIP, and 123 ERA+, with 53.3 wins above replacement and a 3.41 strikeout to walk ratio over his thirteen-year career (152-111, 382 starts). In twenty starts this season, Hamels has a 4.72 ERA and a 1.373 WHIP.

Sherman noted that the Rangers will absorb $10.2 million of Hamels’ remaining salary with the Cubs taking on only $4 million and that Texas was “just looking to get out of any (committed salary), and get some prospects”.

We will keep you updated as the deal inches closer to what appears to be confirmation.
