According to Evan Drellich on Twitter, the Chicago Cubs are close to signing former Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara. The deal is reportedly for one year, $6 million.

Uehara, 41, had a 3.45 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, seven saves and a 5.73 SO/W ratio for the Red Sox in 2016. He did miss time during the season with a pectoral strain and saw diminished velocity on his fastball.

During his eight season major league career, the dominant right-hander has 93 saves, 2.53 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and has struck out 522 batters in 437.2 innings compared to only 66 walks.
