Baez

According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago  Cubs have reached out to the Mets as well as other teams as their year long quest for a cost-controlled starting pitcher wages on.

What’s not clear is if Wittenmyer is referring to the conversation the Mets and Cubs had last offseason or if this is something new.

Considering how the two teams are ideally a solid match, I’m leaning toward Sandy Alderson and Theo Epstein revisiting their past groundwork. A lot has changed in six months.

According to Wittenmyer, shortstop Javier Baez, who recently suffered a broken finger and halted any conversations.

The Mets and Cubs seem locked into the same paradox which has kept them from making a deal in the past.

You have two very stubborn executives who value their assets too highly and are unwilling to bend for the sake of getting something done.

As long as that dynamic continues, my take is the same as it was last September. And that is, move along, nothing to see here.

If there’s a deal to be made for the Mets to address their offensive deficiencies, I don’t believe it will be with the Cubs.
