It will be an offseason of changes for the New York Mets, and that’s not even thinking about the roster expected to take the field on Opening Day in 2022.

First, the Mets need to get their front-office structure in place with a general manager and president of baseball operations. From there, they’ll also need to find a new manager and coaching staff after declining Luis Rojas‘ contract option for next year, along with allowing the coaching staff to pursue other opportunities.

Could current Milwaukee Brewers bench coach, Pat Murphy, be a good fit as the next manager in Flushing? In his weekly ‘Around the Horn’ feature on FanSided, Robert Murray reports that a Brewers official thinks Murphy — who was interviewed by the Mets in 2019 — would be a great fit for the Amazins.

The reasoning behind this executive’s opinion? Per Murray, it’s because Murphy has the right leadership skills and can offer the stability needed to get New York on a proper footing. There’s been plenty of changes going on at Citi Field, and it’s not just ownership changing hands. The Mets have gone through three different general managers and three different managers since 2019 (with one never actually managing a game before getting fired). Having a little consistency is never a bad thing, especially now.

A plus for modern-day front offices is Murphy is also well-versed in analytics and plays a large role in Milwaukee’s game planning, which would undoubtedly be helpful on a day-to-day basis. We don’t know of any official shortlist for the Mets in their manager search yet, and that probably won’t crystallize until there’s more certainty in the front office. Either way, it seems like Murphy would be a good option to consider once again.

What do you think, Mets fans? Could this potentially be a good fit, given the circumstances?
