Terry, Collins

In yesterday’s 10-3 loss to the Miami Marlins, the Mets scored all of their runs in the fourth inning. The offense thus far has had trouble getting started, although we have seen some signs of players looking ready to break out. Manager, Terry Collins knows that the starting position players need to get it going.

“Right now, we got to get this lineup rolling,” Collins said. “I’m not really concerned about my backup players just at this moment. We better get that lineup rolling, or those backup players are going to be in that lineup. That’s the first and foremost thing in my mind.” (NY Times)

The Mets lineup has sputtered out of the gate and are hitting a major league worst .185 through the first six games of the season. Possibly the biggest culprit to that start sits atop the order, Curtis Granderson.

“We certainly got to get him swinging the bat better,” Collins said. “Even last year, when he wasn’t getting hits, he was getting walks, getting on base. Right now, he’s not getting ahead in counts, so he’s having a tough start.” (NY Post)

Overall though the manager was happy with yesterday’s performance from his offense as he is hoping it is the beginning of the end of what has been a slow start to the season. Yoenis Cespedes and David Wright seemed to be seeing the ball well as of late and showing signs of breaking free of early slumps.

“I’ll tell you what, maybe it’s where I sat, but we hit the ball pretty stinkin’ good tonight,” Collins said. “There was some loud noises and that was a very good sign. (Cespedes) hit the ball great, David hit the ball great. We’ve just got to get Grandy and d’Arnaud going to be honest. Those two guys are big.” (NY Daily News)

Hopefully for the team things begin to turn around as RHP Noah Syndergaard takes the mound tonight. The Mets will try to even the series with the Miami Marlins as Thor is opposed by Marlins RHP Jose Fernandez.
