Yoenis Cespedes‘ strikeout in last night’s 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies was his 20th in just 14 games into the season. Manager, Terry Collins is not worried about the high number of punch-outs Cespedes has seen thus far.
“Right now, he’s just getting a little too aggressive at certain times,”Collins said. “But we’re seeing the damage when he’s making contact.” (Newsday)
Cespedes’ 20 strikeouts lead the team. The offense though has been very all in or nothing as they have lived and died by the long ball for the most part through this offensive surge we have seen over the last six games. Strikeouts are bound to come with the territory that this offense plays in.
Cespedes, 30, is off to a nice offensive start this year. He has produced a slash line of .291/.371/1.007 while crushing five homers with 13 RBI. Cespedes went 2-for-6 last night with a dinger and a single.
