Outfielder Chris Young played in an extended spring training game on Thursday and had two singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly in five innings.

On Friday he appeared in another extended spring training game in Port St. Lucie which went very well.

The Mets announced that Young is now headed for a rehab assignment in Las Vegas as he continues his return from the DL with no setbacks.

He is eligible to be activated from the disabled list next Friday.

With Juan Lagares currently the team’s top run producer, and Eric Young now starting to get hot, it’s going to be fun watching how Terry Collins handles the return of Chris Young.

Left fielder Chris Young, who was scratched from the starting lineup on opening day because of a right quadriceps strain, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

He said he felt the muscle “grab” after he chased a long foul fly down the left-field line.

Young was in apparent discomfort and after a discussion with manager Terry Collins, he was replaced by Andrew Brown when the Mets took the field for the second inning.

“It’s like a bad dream, man,” Young said. “I feel terrible about it. You can’t control it.”

Young initially suffered the injury during an exhibition game in Montreal last Saturday, and could now be heading to the disabled list.

You could see Collins and David Wright trying to console a very dejected Young in the dugout. It’s an unfortunate start for the former Oakland Athletic who was signed this offseason to a one year, $7.25 million dollar contract.

If he does go to the DL, it’s most likely that Andrew Brown will split time with Eric Young Jr. in left field. We’ll know more later today.
