Granderson: Mets’ new outfield is ‘awesome’

Mike Puma of The NY Post writes that Curtis Granderson is excited about the Mets outfield and feels that having youth and experience is a great mix, “It’s awesome,” Granderson tells Puma on Sunday. “You’ve got youth. You’ve got experience, you have energy and you have athleticism. I think that is the main thing you have to have when you’re out there in an outfield.”

Granderson looks to join a combination of Chris Young, Eric Young, Jr. and Juan Lagares in the Mets outfield mix, with Granderson expected to play right, Eric Young Jr. in left and the center field starting job to go to either Chris Young or Lagares.

Chris Young

Marc Carig of NY Newsday shares on his Twitter page a quote from Chris Young about the state of the Mets oufield, “We could be one of the best in baseball in the outfield.”

Even with Chris Young and Lagares competing for the right to play center field, Granderson is excited about how the outfield looks and what can it mean in a full season.

“There’s only three of you out there and you try to make it as small as you can,” Granderson tells Puma. “So no matter what the combination happens to be, I think it’s going to be fun for all of us out there.”

Granderson, who spent the last four seasons with the Yankees, is familiar with NY and looks to bring the same energy and experience that helped him to be successful across the river in the Bronx.

If somehow it works out that Lagares and Chris Young share some equal time in the outfield, just on the defensive side alone the Mets should be fun to watch. The season can’t start any sooner.
