All these so-called Mets fans ripping Willie for not using Wagner are nuts. Wise screwed up but he was the right choice to pitch. I’m sure nobody complained when he struck out the first two batters. Why would you bring in Wagner to pitch to a guy who had never homered in his short career? Everyone just chill out! Wise is going to be just fine. Before getting that change-up high enough for Andino to whack out of the park, I was totally impressed with the quality of the pitch.
On another note…
I have a bad feeling that Pedro Martinez is going to miss at least a month with this hamstring injury. I was already feeling leery about having Mike Pelfrey making two starts early in the season, and now we are faced with the real possibility that he will be there for the long haul. It scares me because HE IS NOT READY! Anyone in the know can tell you that. This is not to say he is not talented, although the Mets drafted him mostly because of his height than his skills set.
Is Nelson Figueroa the solution? NO WAY… Maybe signing Kyle Lohse was something we should have considered. Last night he pitched a fine game. The newly signed Cardinal pitched five shutout innings against a stacked Colorado Rockies lineup.
By the way, Carlos Delgado is toast. Don’t tell me it’s only April 1st, I’m basing it on his performance since April 1st 2007!
