With the Mets in town this week for a three-game series with the Miami Marlins, rehabbing outfielder Yoenis Cespedes payed his teammates and the athletic training staff a visit prior to Monday night’s game.
Cespedes is currently rehabbing in Port St. Lucie after undergoing double heel surgery. He last caught up with the team during Spring Training, and on Monday afternoon he appeared to be in a bit better shape.
Pregame, Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters including Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, that Cespedes is going to be continuing with his program and he is slowly making progress each day.
Cespedes himself did not speak to reporters this afternoon, and he has not provided them with an update on his status since the middle of February. Though he did play catch while the team took batting practice, he also reportedly took a few swings in the indoor batting cage. However, he is still yet to begin running.
The Mets are certainly hoping that they’ll be able to get Cespedes’ bat back in the lineup at some point most likely during the second half of the season.
