Carlos Beltran may not be staying away from baseball for long. The New York Yankees are considering him for their vacant managerial position according to Steve Phillips of SiriusXM. The nine-time All-Star will interview with the team on Wednesday according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
After firing Joe Girardi following the 2017 postseason, the Yankees have yet to find a replacement for the man who managed the team for the last decade.
The Yankees conducted five interviews over the past few weeks. The five were San Francisco Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens, former manager Eric Wedge, Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Chris Woodward, former major leaguer Aaron Boone, and their bench coach Rob Thomson.
Thomson was the first candidate the team interviewed and he will be interviewing for the Philadelphia Phillies’ bench coach position on Wednesday.
Beltran, 40, spent parts of three seasons with the Yankees and hit .270/.327/.470 with 153 runs, 56 home runs, and 180 RBI.
It is expected by many that Beltran will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame after his illustrious 20-year career; six-and-a-half of which were spent in Queens.
