The St. Louis Cardinals, in the midst of trying to prevent a larger outbreak of positive COVID-19 tests among the team, have not played a single baseball game since July 29.

Unfortunately, it seems that this time away from the field will continue – at least until August 13.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the three-game series that was set to begin on Monday between St. Louis and Pittsburgh has been postponed.

Given that the Cardinals were told on Saturday that the team would not be gathering for at least three to five days and thus should get their own workouts in, as per Mark Saxon of The Athletic, many were anticipating this outcome.

This comes after the Cards’ series against the Chicago Cubs – which was slated to take place this weekend at Busch Stadium – was canceled due to three additional positive test results (two players, one staff member) for St. Louis that were confirmed this past Friday.

As of today, the total number of positive COVID-19 tests for the Cardinals now sits at 16 (nine players, seven staff members). By midweek, St. Louis will have missed 15 games out of their 60-game schedule.
