The Mets won their Grapefruit League opener on Saturday afternoon 4-3 over the Braves with Robinson Cano provided a key hit.

Cano came up in the bottom of the third inning with the game tied and a runner on third. The Braves defense was shifted to the right side and Cano took advantage by nudging an RBI single to the normal shortstop position.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway was impressed by the hit, and wants to see more of it:

Gary, Keith, and Ron on the broadcast made it a point to talk about the hitting philosophies of new hitting coach Chili Davis, which included making more contact in scoring situations.

Callaway touched on his thoughts about beating the shift:

The biggest hit of the game came from Mets first base prospect Pete Alonso when he blasted the first pitch he saw for a two-run homer. Alonso also walked in his other plate appearance.

Callaway was happy to see the possible Opening Day first baseman enjoying himself:

The Mets play their second game of the spring on Sunday afternoon against the Astros with 2018 Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom on the mound.
