The New York Mets have found their 1-2 punch at the top of the order. Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera have been terrific when batting atop the Mets lineup.

When Reyes and Cabrera bat 1-2, the Mets are 7-2 and score 6.2 runs per game.  In those games, Reyes and Cabrera are batting .466. Cabrera is currently gutting it out and playing through injury as the Mets enter the home stretch, striving for consecutive postseason berths.

“As a teammate, we appreciate that from him,” Reyes said. “That means he wants to win too, like us. He doesn’t feel too good but he finds a way to stay on the field. So, that’s good to see.” (Newsday)

Since coming off of the Disabled List August 19th, Cabrera has been on an absolute rampage at the plate. Cabrera has hit to a .447/.476/.868 slash line to go along with four homers and 11 RBI. Cabrera admits the pain is still there, but he does his best to not think about it.

“When I’m on the field, I’m not thinking much about it,” Cabrera said. “I know I’ve got to be smart. I’ve got a bad knee. But I just try to play my game.”

Asdrubal’s table-setter, Reyes, has had a heck of a year himself since returning to the team who signed him as an international free agent all the way back in 1999 at the age of 16.  Reyes has provided that spark atop the lineup that this team had sorely been missing ever since he departed through free agency.

Jose has hit to a .300/.344/.493 slash, padded with four homers and 13 RBI. He has also swiped six bases and helped to produce 25 runs. Cabrera launched a two-run bomb to tie the game at two in the bottom of the first Tuesday night after Reyes led off the game with a single. Reyes ended the game 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
