marlon byrd homers

Byrd’s the word these days for the Mets, as their veteran offseason signing continues to produce at a level far beyond what anyone expected.

Last night, Marlon Byrd struck again and this time he hit not one, but two home runs in the Mets 10-1 rout of the Washington Nationals.

Better still was the fact that Byrd predicted he’d hit two homers before the game during batting practice according to the New York Post:

“I was feeling good in B.P. and I was joking around with Anthony Recker,” Byrd said. “I said, ‘Hey, if I get some pitches tonight, get some strikes, I’m going to hit two home runs tonight.’ I didn’t think it was going to happen.”

But Recker said Byrd’s prediction wasn’t a joke.

“He was dead serious,” Recker said. “And he did it. That’s amazing to me. He called it. You don’t see that very often.”

Byrd is batting .255 for the season with 8 home runs and 28 RBI. Four of those home runs have come in his last eight games over which he is batting .318 with a .423 on-base.
