Will the Mets land prized free agent outfielder George Springer? Some might bet the farm on it.

MLB Insider Buster Olney appeared on ESPN Radio on Monday and said that he is “just about ready to bet the family farm in Vermont,” on it.

Springer, 31, has spent the last seven seasons with the Houston Astros, appeared in three All-Star Games, locked down two Silver Slugger Awards and was the 2017 World Series MVP.

In the shortened 2020 season, the Connecticut native appeared in 51 games, was worth 1.9 fWAR, had a 146 wRC+ and .379 wOBA and logged a triple slash of .265/.359/.540.

Signing the natural center fielder would also be a big boon to the Mets defensively. In 338 innings last year, Springer had six defensive runs saved (DRS), but also had a -0.4 ultimate zone range (UZR). Though, in his last full season, his UZR was 3.9.

Their was smoke between the Mets and Springer earlier on in the day Monday, as Andy Martino of SNY said “They want him, they’re in on him, and we’ll see.”

Springer has also been linked to the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason, as on Nov. 28, it was reported by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca that the two sides were “beyond just talking.”

MLB Trade Rumors predicts Springer will land a five year, $125 million contract this winter.
