Jay Bruce struck the big blow in today’s record-setting win against the Tigers, a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Indians a 3-1 lead. After the game, Bruce was interviewed on the field and reflected on his mid-season trade from New York.

“I went from being in one of the least fun situations in baseball to the most fun,” Bruce said.

Unfortunately, he’s not wrong. The Mets are one of the least fun situations in baseball. They aren’t winning and everyone is injured, and it shows in the team’s attendance. Compare that to being on a team that just won 21 straight games and is destined for the playoffs and it pales in comparison.

Bruce has hit .256/.325/.515 with 34 home runs, 93 RBIs and a 120 wRC+ this season between New York and Cleveland. He is due to be a free agent at the end of this season and this quote speaks volumes about how willing he would be to return to New York.
