A situation the Mets were not wanting to face in the final series of the regular season was to have one of their hottest players go down with an injury. In the top of first inning, it appeared Brett Baty may have hurt himself on a swing. He was seen grimacing and tugging at his side after grounding out to second baseman Xavier Edwards. Then, in the bottom half of the inning, he made a throw across his body to first that ended the inning.

As the game headed to the second, instead of Baty coming back out to play third base, it was Ronny Mauricio coming in to replace Baty, who was seen talking with the Mets’ trainers before exiting the dugout and heading into the clubhouse for further evaluation.

The Mets later announced that Baty departed the game with right side soreness.

After a slow start to the 2025 season, Baty has been one of the Mets’ hottest players. Over the course of the month of September, Baty has hit .276/.323/.466. He has two doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs and five runs scored over that span, but it’s been his ability to come up clutch that has greatly helped the Mets as of recent, including on Thursday night when he went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Over the course of the season, he is slashing .254/.313/.435. He has a total 13 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, 50 RBIs and 53 runs scored.

The Mets will hope it is nothing serious with Baty and that he can return this weekend or in the postseason should they clinch a spot.
