The monster that wouldn’t die… For the first time in their fifty year history, the Mets completed a four-game sweep of the Reds after winning a 10-9 nail-biter in Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon.
Game Highlights
Jason Bay went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs today. The doubles were his first in 50 games after a 195 at-bat drought. He is still struggling and is batting .176 in his last ten games and .230 on the season.
How about Lucas Duda! The Mets new right fielder went 2-for-4 with a three-run double and a walk and has really turned it on since replacing Beltran. He is now batting .283 with a .823 OPS in 127 at-bats.
David Wright went 3-for-5 with an RBI. He is hitting .455 (15-for-33) with 12 RBIs in seven games since returning from the disabled list and has raised his average to .263 for the season.
Daniel Murphy batted third today, was on base three times, and scored three runs. He is an unstoppable force right now and is batting .320 this season with 28 doubles, 46 runs and 48 RBI in 363 at-bats. We’ll need to find a permanent position for Murphy next season – no way do you send him to the bench.
The Mets were 8 for 18 with runners in scoring position today, and during the four-game sweep they scored 30 runs on 34 hits, doing most of that damage in the last two games without Carlos Beltran.
Pitching? Don’t ask it was brutal…
Chris Capuano started for the Mets and looked awful again allowing six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. The bullpen fared no better. Acosta, Beato and Isringhausen combined to give up 3 earned runs, a home run and five hits in 2.2 innings pitched. However, Parnell pitched a clean inning, and Izzy did manage the save – his fourth of the season.
