Brandon Sproat was impressive yet again in his longest outing of the year for the Brooklyn Cyclones, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight batters as the Mets’ minor league affiliates on the whole largely continue to shine on the mound.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (19-14) 9, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (12-20) 2

BOX SCORE

Syracuse had a great showing offensively with eight of nine hitters reaching base. Vientos and Gamel continue to anchor the unit, and new addition Mike Brosseau went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

  • RHP Mike Vasil (9.12 ERA) 4 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR allowed (52 of 85 pitches for strikes)
  • LHP Danny Young (1.08) 1/3 IP, BB
  • LHP Tyler Jay (1.53) 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 HR allowed
  • RHP Yacksel Ríos (2.30) 1 IP, K
  • RHP Cole Sulser (4.00) 1 IP, 1 H, BB, 2 K

Vasil turned in another uneven outing despite his only run coming on a solo home run. He struggled with his control, limiting him to 4 2/3 innings pitched while also lowering his ERA. The bullpen had a great game, only allowing two hits and one run.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-12) 5, Portland Sea Dogs (16-11) 3

BOX SCORE

The Rumble Ponies scored two runs on bases-loaded walks while Schwartz stole another base, possibly adding another facet to his game. Binghamton was stifled early on by Sea Dogs starter Angel Bastardo, however, who struck out 10 in his five innings of work.

Ramírez, cooling down after his hot start, also recorded an outfield assist, throwing top Red Sox prospect Kyle Teel out at home.

Foster struggled with his control today but still managed to limit the Sea Dogs to one run. Santos entered in a non-save situation and allowed two runs, making the game dicey in the latter stages.

High-A

Rome Braves (15-12) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (16-13) 0

BOX SCORE

The Cyclones put up two hits and three walks on the day, so offense wasn’t in the cards on Thursday. Omar De Los Santos earned the dubious honor of stealing two bases, one after he reached on a force-out and another after he reached base on catcher’s interference.

  • RHP Brandon Sproat (1.07) 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 8 K (57 of 90 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Joey Lancellotti (2.35) 1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 K
  • RHP Justin Lawson (0.59) 1 IP, BB, K

Sproat had another great start for the Cyclones, essentially mirroring his last outing. He did allow one run though, which would end up representing the game-deciding run. Lawson continued his dominating season, having allowed only one earned run while striking out 15 batters in 15 1/3 innings.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (12-17) 3, Bradenton Marauders (11-18) 8

BOX SCORE

St. Lucie’s offensive output proved to not be enough to earn the win as the pitching had an off day. Houck is now 1 for his last 25 with 15 strikeouts.

Vargas, in his first appearance since April 28, went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks.

  • RHP Kade Morris (2.61) 5 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, BB, 9 K, 3 HR allowed (55 of 81 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jawilme Ramirez (2.30) 1 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, BB
  • LHP Franklin Gomez (2.92) 4 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, BB, 3 K, 1 HR allowed

Morris was hit hard on the day, giving up three home runs despite striking out nine batters. Gomez came out for the last two innings and allowed one run, also on a home run while striking out three batters.

Florida Coast League

FCL Mets (2-2) 4, FCL Cardinals (3-2) 7

BOX SCORE

The FCL Mets put some runs up across the board, but no player other than the scorching-hot Juan produced more than one hit. They did, however, manage five walks on the day, and right now they have two players with an OPS over 1.000.

The FCL Mets pitching struggled on the day, though Brayhans Barreto threw a clean two innings with three strikeouts.
