According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has been diagnosed with a “bulging cervical disk pushing a nerve in his neck” and whiplash.

The Mets had originally classified the injury as neck stiffness, then shifted to “inflammation” when they placed him on the 10-day injured list earlier this week.

“I’m 26 years old. I had never had neck problems like this before. I take really good care of my body and try to prevent [injuries],” Nimmo told DiComo. “And so I was just like, ‘Man, why does this keep happening?'”

Since making his MLB debut in June 2016, Nimmo’s made four trips to the DL-then-IL for a multitude of ailments, ranging from common (hamstring, finger) to bizarre (partially collapsed lung).

Brandon Nimmo was slashing .235/.350/.412 with an alarming 25 strikeouts over 61 plate appearances before his April 14 collision into the outfield wall in Atlanta, though he was 10-f0r-his-last-25 from April 7 until the injury.

Since being hurt, Nimmo’s compiled a .177/.340/.266 slash line with 23 more punchouts over 100 plate appearances.

We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
