New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is starting his rehab assignment on Thursday night with Advanced-A St. Lucie Mets. He is leading off as the designated hitter.

Nimmo was placed on the injured list on May 22 (retroactive to May). He is dealing with stiff neck as well as a bulging cervical disk, injuries that have lingered since mid-April.

The injuries likely played a role in his ugly .200/.344/.323 slash line to start the year. In fact, he was hitting .241/.388/.463 when he was first pulled from a game after complaining of a stiff neck.

In his absence, the combination of Juan Lagares (.559 OPS) and Carlos Gomez (.553 OPS) have struggled mightily in center field.
