The Mets fell to the Mariners 8-7 on Sunday night, but Brandon Nimmo was a key contributor in the Mets’ run category. He was 2-for-5, with a double, triple, and three RBIs.

Nimmo’s triple was an early turning point for the Mets in the fourth as two runs scored on the play and gave the Mets a 5-4 lead over the Mariners for the Mets first lead of the afternoon. The Mariners, however, came back to regain the lead in the top of the sixth.

Nimmo then came up big again with a second clutch hit of the game, this time an RBI double in the ninth inning that shrunk the The Mets deficit to 8-7. It also gave the Mets the tying run on third and go-ahead run on second. However, they were unable to produce, leaving Patrick Mazeika and Nimmo stranded at third and second respectively to ultimately fall to the Mariners.

Nimmo has been the Mets most consistent offensive player in 2022 and leads the team with his 161 wRC+. He is hitting .304/.414/.473 with 20 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 12 RBIs, and 20 walks.

With his two hits on Sunday, Nimmo now has a career-best 11-game hitting streak and has been on base in 26 straight games.

Per Mathew Brownstein of Metsmerized, Nimmo is the first Mets leadoff hitter to collect a double, triple, and drive in three runs in a game since he himself did it on August 15, 2018.

At the end of Sunday’s game, Nimmo spoke with the media. He said it was tough to lose the series since the team has gotten used to winning. But he reiterated that he was proud of the way the team fought until the end.

“Really proud of the fight today. Could’ve just rolled over and called it a day, especially a day game coming after a late night game, but we didn’t,” said Nimmo.
