Brandon Nimmo could be close to returning to the Mets lineup.

As the team begins to piece together its best lineup in weeks, Nimmo seems on the verge of returning from the injured list, sidelined with a finger injury that has kept him out of play since May 2.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Nimmo will continue his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets before rejoining the Mets on their next road trip.

Nimmo began a rehab stint with Syracuse earlier this week. He has gone 1-for-7 with a walk in three games thus far.

In addition to Nimmo, Michael Conforto was on the IL for an extended period, though he returned the Mets lineup with a 2-for-4 night on Wednesday.

With a makeshift lineup much of this season, the Mets outfielders have combined to produce a -1.1 WAR this season, which ranks 24th among all major league teams.

Based on Puma’s report, Nimmo can return as early as June 28, when the Mets play a makeup game in Washington D.C.

Prior to landing on the IL, Nimmo was batting .318/.430/.439 in 80 plate appearances this season. Despite the limited sample size, his 147 OPS+ is the second best of any season in his career (148 OPS+ in 2018).
