According to Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News, ahead of Saturday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway said outfielder Brandon Nimmo (bulging cervical disc) is a “possibility” to be activated from the 60-day injured list on Sunday when rosters expand.

Nimmo, 26, was injured when he crashed into the outfield wall at Atlanta on April 14. He continued to play through the injuries (he was also diagnosed with whiplash), but eventually succumbed to the affliction after seeing his production levels drop significantly.

After beginning the season slow (2-for-26 from Opening Day through April 6), the Wyoming native began looking like the player that broke out in 2018.

From April 7 through the end of the month — two weeks after he was injured — Nimmo slashed .300/.417/.517 over 72 plate appearances. He went just 6-for-44 over 16 games in May before hitting the 10-day IL on May 22 (retroactive to May 21).

Longtime teammate, Michael Conforto, surely echoed the sentiments of the rest of the Mets, telling the NYDN, “We’re all very excited […] He’s a great guy to have in the clubhouse”.
