When listening to the opening introductions on the last Opening Day at Shea I intently heard the loud disdain for some members of the Phillies.  When Jimmy Rollins’ name was announced I think the boos were so loud it put another crack in the Liberty Bell.  OK I get it, I’ve been paying attention, I know why the Met Fan characteristically boos him and others, such at Pat Burrell, Chase Utley and other players from other teams.

However, for the life of me, I can not and will not accept the booing of someone that wears Blue and Orange.

I’ve been a Met fan since sitting on my Dad shoulders in 1969 as a little girl and screaming Lets Go Mets! With that said, I’ve sat through more disappointing games then I care to reminisce about.  I went to close to 20 games last year, I saw the writing on the wall, on that sad Sunday my heart ached down to my very soul.  (I refuse to use the overused "C" word in fact I’m petitioning to have it removed from Webster’s).  In spite of all I’ve seen over these "many" years, it makes my stomach turn like a whirlpool stuck on the spin cycle when one of the players on "MY TEAM" gets booed by what I call a so-called "FAN".

Seriously, if we are going to boo the life out of Pat Burrell why the hell would we boo someone in our "FAMILY" when they have a bad day?  Don’t for one minute use the excuse they make millions of dollars and they should… yeah yeah I know, but when it comes down to it, they are still humans like you and me.

Don’t you think that if we, as the fans, go the extra mile and actually SUPPORT guys when things are not exactly how we hoped, that it might actually give them the boost to get the results that ultimately make us cheer loudly again?  We are all aware of Delgado’s slump last year and he would barely get out of the on deck circle and the ignorant, uneducated boos would start, and one HOT day against the Dodgers last year, for whatever reason he came up and like magic the crowd stood and cheered him, and what happened, yeah, bang… hit up the middle and he drove in two.  WE WON that day…..

Johan Santana did not have a great day, I know baseball and I know he gave up too much of a long ball, but how dare you, on his first day at home boo a CY Young award winner…

I’ll get off my soap box now, but I leave you with this, I am lucky enough to go to about 15 or mores games a year, and if you boo anyone of my guys on my team and sit near me, I pity you and can not be held accountable for my actions.  I’m 5’2" and mighty potent.
