Mickey Callaway announced this morning that the Mets are going to have a bullpen game today against the Los Angeles Dodgers, in which they will have Jerry Blevins start the game.
Don’t expect Blevins to be in their long though as Callaway said that “almost everyone in the ‘pen is going to pitch today.”
The situation at hand is the result of the Mets placing Jason Vargas on the DL last night with a calf strain. The Mets will have an eighth reliever to work with today, as Chris Flexen was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his roster spot.
This will be Blevins’ first start of his MLB career. On the year, he has a 1-1 record, 4.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 32 relief appearances (16 2/3 innings).
