The St. Louis Cardinals are going to the World Series after a 9-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the best of seven series, four games to two. It will be the Cardinals’ fourth trip to the Fall Classic in the last ten years. Overall, this is the 19th National League Championship for the Cardinals, the most by any franchise in the National League.

Carlos Beltran and the Cardinals stunned Clayton Kershaw with a four-run third inning, and rookie Michael Wacha was again magnificent on the mound as St. Louis advanced to its second World Series in three seasons.

Wacha was named the Most Valuable Player of the series. The 22-year old was selected in the first round of the 2012 Draft, 19th overall, and went 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA during the regular season..

It will be the first World Series for former Met, Carlos Beltran. Both the president and GM acknowledged Beltran when they accepted their NL Championship Trophy during the presentation after the game.

“That’s always been a theme of what these guys would like to see happen,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. “For all of us in St. Louis, we think back to the days when he was in Houston, and Beltran may been the best player on the planet.”

“I want to thank God for this opportunity,” Beltran said. “I’m so happy right now. We have a great team and we all worked hard to get to this point. It’s been a wonderful experience for me and I’m so happy and excited for my teammates.”

Beltran made an incredible catch to preserve the shutout for Wacha who waited to greet him at home plate to high-five him. Beltran also had three hits in the game.
