Mets GM Sandy Alderson does not expect left fielder Jason Bay to return from the disabled list until April 26th at the earliest according to WFAN’s Ed Coleman.
Anthony DiComo adds,
More than two weeks have passed since Jason Bay first strained his left intercostal muscle, and still the Mets have no concrete idea of when he might return. Such is the nature of midsection injuries.
At the time of Bay’s injury, the Mets believed he could be ready to rejoin the team as soon as last Saturday. Once that target date came and went, the team pointed to this weekend’s series against the Braves. Now, they are looking to the final week of April, nearly a full month removed from when he sustained the injury on March 29.
Jason Bay has spend more time not playing for the Mets than playing since signing his $66 million dollar deal 14 months ago.
He missed the final two months of last season with a concussion, then missed time in spring training with back soreness, and then this latest bout with an intercostal injury.
He continues to take batting practice at the Mets Spring Training complex, but so far there are no plans for him to begin playing in any Minor League rehab games before returning to the Mets.
