Jason Bay didn’t take very long to contribute to the Mets offensively, and it sure did pay off as the Mets went on to win a tight one against the D-Backs 6-4. Even with the rain delay, the Mets offense still decided to come alive today. The team’s 15 hits is a season high for the Amazins. That was all the help Dillon Gee needed in order for the Mets to compete today against the D-Backs.
Game Notes
Dillon Gee pitched well today. He gave up 2 runs, but his only mistake of the game was a mammoth HR to Miguel Montero that gave the D-Backs the lead in the 6th. Overall, Gee went 6 innings, gave up 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5 batters.
Jason Bay, Ike Davis, and Daniel Murphy all came through for the Amazins today. Bay and Davis hit back-to-back HRs against D-Backs pitcher Enright in the third inning. Bay also hit an RBI single in the first that brought home Jose Reyes and David Wright. Both Ike Davis, and Jason Bay are continuing to stay hot offensively.
Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen, and K-Rod came into the game after Dillon Gee, and shut down the D-Back’s attempt to comeback. It did get pretty dicey when K-Rod had runners at 2nd, and 3rd that could have scored the tying run, but K-Rod came through in the clutch with RISP.
Turning Point
Daniel Murphy and his RBI single that gave the Mets the lead heading into the 7th inning. After that, the Mets added an insurance run, and never looked back. Well, almost.
Game Ball
The game ball is going to go to Jason Bay. Bay went 2 for 4, and had 3 RBI. Bay hit a 2-run single, and hit his first HR in 2011.
On Deck
The Mets are back to Citi Field on Easter Sunday tomorrow, to finish the 3-game set against the D-Backs tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 PM EST. Armando Galarraga goes on the mound for the D-Backs, while Jonathan Niese goes on the mound for the Amazins.
