The Mets’ offense came to life in a huge way on Friday night against the Royals, who came into Citi Field on a seven-game win streak. The Mets struck for six runs on 14 hits and won the game 6-1. Two of those runs came from Brett Baty, who hit a scorching double (104.2 mph) with two outs in the fifth to extend the Mets’ lead over the Royals to 5-1.

He also hit a single in the fourth inning that extended his hitting streak to seven games as the Mets went on to defeat Kansas City 6-1 at Citi Field.

Baty finished the night 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to bring his batting average to .327 on the season. Both of Baty’s hits were against changeups from former Met Michael Wacha. After the game, Baty was asked what was clicking against Wacha for himself and the team.

“He was slowing it down on us. We just had to stay back and stay up the middle and not try to do too much,” Baty explained.

The approach worked well against Wacha and the red-hot Royals. The Mets scored six runs and improved to 6-7. With the on-field success, the fun has seemingly followed.

“We’re just having fun out there, man,” Baty said. “Ya’ll (the fans) are bringing the energy and we’re having fun out here.”

Early this season, Brett Baty is slashing .327/.365/.408 with a .773 OPS. In the last 12 games, Baty is 16-for-46, batting .348 with two extra-base hits, eight RBIs, a .823 OPS, and four multi-hit games. He has also reached base in every game except opening night.

Mets’ Manager Carlos Mendoza discussed Baty’s Friday night performance and acknowledged the confidence he sees in Baty, who again, now has a seven-game hitting streak rolling.

“Confidence player right now,” said Mendoza. The way he’s preparing. The interaction. He’ll compete on every side of the ball. There’s no panic in the box, he stays short. You can see the confidence in him right now.”
