plawecki-milbThe Mets top 2 prospects (according to MLB.com) Noah Syndergaard and Kevin Plawecki teamed up for an effort worthy of those rankings on Wednesday.

Making his 25th start for the AAA Las Vegas 51’s, Syndergaard made it one of his best. Over 6.2 he struck out 9 and yielded just 1 run on 7 hits. What was most impressive was his command of the strike zone. Of the 110 pitches that Syndergaard threw, 80 went for strikes. This was a purely dominant start for the top prospect.

Syndergaard’s battery mate Plawecki provided just about all the offense the 51’s would need. He launched two home runs into the Las Vegas night, finishing 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Plawecki’s batting average is now .304 and he has emerged as one of the best catching prospects in all of baseball (he is currently ranked 4th by Major League Baseball).

For these two prospects, good fortune may have come at the perfect time. With a potential Bartolo Colon trade and September call-ups just around the corner, both Syndergaard and Plawecki could get their chance in the majors. For now, every member of the 51’s has September 3rd circled. That night they will open up the Pacific Coast League playoffs and unless he’s in Queens, Syndergaard will be on the hill throwing to Plawecki.
