Baseball America has released its top 30 prospects for each major league organization, and given their top 100, the first three names should come as no surprise. Those three names along with the rest of the rankings are as follows:

  2. Brett Baty, 3B/OF
  3. Ronny Mauricio, SS
  4. Mark Vientos, 3B/OF

The top four prospects on these rankings have appeared in various top-100 prospects rankings, and they are widely considered among the top prospects in baseball. For his part, Allan most likely would have been in those rankings had he not suffered an injury. This all speaks to the quality at the very top of the Mets system.

There is also depth developing within this system. Notably, of the 30 prospects in these rankings, we see exactly half of the players ranked have joined the organization since 2020. We are also very likely to see more newcomers to these rankings in the very near future.

For example, two names noticeably absent from these rankings are Simon Juan and Willy Fañas. Juan and Fañas were recent signees from the 2022 international free agent singing class, and as noted in MMN‘s own top 30 prospects, they are both among the very best prospects in the Mets farm system. As a result, we should see their names in the very near future.

One other caveat which needs to be mentioned is the Rule 5 draft has not yet occurred due to the lockout. As a result, Cortes and Senger may well find themselves with another MLB organization whenever the season and normal baseball activities resume. It may also be the case the Mets are able to draft a player in the Rule 5 draft who could also join these rankings.

One final note here is Mauricio, Vientos, and Oller were added to the Mets 40 man roster this offseason to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. As a result, they are barred from participating in Spring Training or minor league games until the lockout is resolved. At this moment, it is difficult to ascertain what impact this will have on their development and how they will be viewed as prospects in the future.
