The Mets have announced that they have placed Luis Avilan on the 10-day IL with left elbow soreness and have recalled Chris Flexen from Triple-A Syracuse.
Avilan, 29, tossed 2/3 of an inning on against the Brewers while striking out one batter and allowing one hit. After 11 pitches, he was replaced by right-hander Drew Gagnon with an apparent injury.
The left-hander has appeared in 11 games this season in which he has logged 10 2/3 innings pitched. In that span, he has a 9.28 ERA, 2.06 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts.
Flexen, 24, has made one start for the Mets in 2019 in which he lasted 4 1/3 innings while allowing six runs (five earned), seven hits, and four walks.
