DANIEL MURPHY: Equaled his career-high with three hits last night…It was the 11th time he’s had three hits in a game, last accomplished on September 17, 2009 at Atlanta…He hit a two-run shot off Bud Norris in the sixth-inning to tie the game at 3-3…It was his first home run since October 2, 2009 also vs. the Houston Astros (off Doug Brocail)…Murphy has collected at least one hit in all six of his starts (.368, 7-19).
BASES LOADED: The Mets were 0-2 with the bases loaded last night…New York is batting .211 (4-19) with the bases loaded, ranking 22nd in the majors…The 19 at-bats with the bases full are tied for the fifth most in the majors…New York ranked 27th in the majors last year with a .244 (32-131) batting average with the bases loaded.
CHRIS YOUNG: Will pitch a simulated game today…He is eligible to return from the Disabled List on Tuesday at Washington.
RONNY PAULINO: Is celebrating his 30th birthday today…Paulino reported to Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and is expected to play in the Bisons doubleheader today…Paulino is batting .176 (3-17) over five major league rehabilitation games with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League…He has thrown out one of two baserunners…Paulino is eligible to return from the Disabled List on Tuesday at Washington.
MINOR NOTE: LHP Mark Cohoon, the Organizational Pitcher of the Year last season, tossed 7.0 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in Binghamton’s 5-3 Eastern League victory over Portland…Cohoon has allowed one run over 19.0 innings spanning three starts with 20 strikeouts.
THIS DATE IN METS HISTORY: Tom Seaver extends his consecutive scoreless streak to 26.2 innings (a then club record) in beating Cincinnati, 5-2 on April 21, 1971…Gary Carter drives in four runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the of the ninth inning in a 6-5 win over the Pirates on April 21, 1986.
Game Preview
The Mets lost the second game of the series last night in a way that could only be described as 1962-esque. If it was any other team, it would be funny how the Mets find these odd, unlucky situations to lose games, but its our team, so its just hard to watch. Anyway, the Mets will try to stop the bleeding again tonight against J.A. Happ and the Astros with Chris Capuano.
Chris Capuano has pitched in four games with two starts and a 1-1 record with a 8.53 ERA over 12.2 innings of work. In 10.2 innings of work against the Astros last season he posted a nice ERA of 2.53. The Astros have these numbers against Chris:
