Major League Baseball released a statement on Monday afternoon in response to multiple teams shutting down camp as a result of untimely Covid-19 test results.

“As of today, more than 95% of the tests under the Intake Screening have been conducted, analyzed, and shared with all 30 Clubs. All of the individuals among the 95% have now moved on to the phase that will test them every other day. The remaining number of outstanding tests are expected to be completed today.”

The Nationals and Astros closed their camps on Monday as they await results and the A’s have delayed the start of their camp as they wait.

Both the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals canceled their team Monday team workouts due to safety concerns. Neither team has received their Covid-19 test results from the weekend.

The Nationals and Astros are waiting on results for players and staff that were taken on Friday.

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo released a statement, “We will not sacrifice the health and safety of our players, staff and their families…Without accurate and timely testing it is simply not safe for us to continue with summer camp. Major League Baseball needs to work quickly to resolve issues with their process and lab.”

The Oakland Athletic’s start to camp has been delayed because they have yet to receive the results for their initial intake testing. The Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals are still waiting on results for earlier testing on a few players as well.

Braves’ first baseman Freddie Freeman, Twins’ third baseman Miguel Sano, Royals’ catcher Salvador Perez, and Diamondbacks’ reliever Junior Guerra are among the players that have tested positive for Covid-19.
