According to manager Terry Collins, shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is doing fine and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday when the Mets host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field.

Cabrera left the game in the first inning due to back spasms and never took the field against the Nats.

“All of a sudden, it locked up on him downstairs as he was stretching,” Collins said. “He says he feels fine and will be ready for Friday. I hope he is.”

Original Report

Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was pulled from today’s finale against the Washington Nationals due to back spasms.

Cabrera, 30, never actually took the field or got a plate appearance, but it will count as a game because he was in the original lineup.

Rookie infielder Matt Reynolds replaced Cabrera and drew a walk in his first plate appearance before singling in the 5th inning against Tanner Roark for his first major league hit.

Cabrera has been one of the most durable players on the team for the Mets, having played in all 45 games of the season before today, starting in 44 of them.

“I’m not that old yet, I feel really good,” he recently told reporters. “I love to play every day. I know someday I’m going to need a day off, but I feel good now.”

The veteran shortstop is having a solid season, batting .283 with a .335 OBP and .727 OPS in 179 plate appearances.

He has three home runs, nine doubles and 17 RBI, all while playing a solid shortstop for the Amazins.

The Mets signed Cabrera to a two-year, $18.5 million contract during the offseason, which so far, has looked like an excellent signing for the team.
