Having recently read, “So Many Ways to Lose,” Devin Gordon’s, comedic, heartfelt masterpiece on the history of the Mets, I feel like there should be mandatory mental health insurance for being a lifelong fan.

Wednesday night in San Francisco, they can’t buy a run for eight innings, then edge their way into extras to beat the best team in baseball by four runs, albeit against sup par pitching, but they did it!

On Thursday at Chavez Ravine, Mets starter Taijuan Walker failed to reap revenge and a bullpen of seven Dodger pitchers held New York to one run on six hits, striking out the side in the top of the ninth for a 4-1 win. The only positive takeaway – the Phillies lost and the Braves had the night off.

I’ve been glued to the Mets since I was 11 years old, the year before they were crowned a “miracle” so, I’m in deep. I curse at the TV if they lose and it makes my day better if they win. I have a very strong feeling that until they leave the state of California – I’ll need to seek an alternative better.

With a rinse and repeat coming up against the Giants after three more games in LA, it’s looking pretty grim for the Mets until they start a 14-day stint with the below .500 hitting Marlins and Nats.

To quote no one in particular, “This is going to be a long hot rest of summer into fall.”
