The Mets woes continued out west with a 5-4 loss against the Diamondbacks on another night when they drew first blood but couldn’t hold the lead.

Tommy Milone’s second start for NY left much to be desired as the newly acquired left-hander yielded five runs on six hits in five plus innings – sending the downward spiraling Mets to their sixth straight defeat.

In the third, Lucas Duda, reminiscent of his errant throw to the plate in the painful World Series loss to the Royals, didn’t help Milone’s cause. Throwing wide of Rivera during the Diamondback’s double steal attempt, he allowed Paul Goldschmidt to score from third, capping a four-run inning.

Arizona starter Zack Greinke was also not golden, walking in a run in the second, for a total of four on five hits in six and change. But he struck out eight, two with runners on second and third, leaving the game in the hands of a very stingy bullpen.

Andrew Chafin, Archie Bradley and the slanted cap wearing Fernando Rodney were lights out giving up a lousy walk in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Yasmany Tomas continued his torrid assault on NY with a solo homer, his fifth straight against the Mets, which proved to be the winning run.

The bright spot in all of NY’s negativity was the bullpen performance of Jerry Blevins and Fernando Salas holding Arizona to a walk and a base hit – and the promising rookie Paul Sewald striking out three of the four batters he faced.

Rene Rivera’s two-run shot in the seventh extended his hitting streak to a career-high ten games, pulling the Mets within one.

What ‘s concerning is the cooled off bats of Michael Conforto and Jay Bruce, who are a combined 0-11 in their last two games, with ten strikeouts between them. Bruce is showing the same vulnerability that put him in slump last season, lunging at balls off the left side of the plate.

But where Bruce lacked in offense, he kept the score close with defense, chasing down three deep rockets to right field to keep it a one run deficit, which the Mets couldn’t capitalize on.

Wednesday, in the final game of their road trip, Matt Harvey returns to the mound trying to rebound from his rocky start against Milwaukee with a much needed win against the 3-4 LHP Patrick Corbin.
